Philip Jackson A Life in Sculpture

Philip Jackson is arguably Britain’s greatest living figurative sculptor. In this superbly illustrated book, published in 2020, I tell the story of his life and a body of work that has followed two very distinct paths.  He is the first to say that his style is diverse. From his gallery sculpture, which is inspired by Venice and the Maschera Nobile and sought after by collectors all over the world, to his major public commissions commemorating great events and global figures such as the Bomber Command Memorial in Green Park or the sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi in Parliament Square, Jackson’s style is dramatic, haunting, challenging and always thought-provoking. It seeks and achieves a response.

The book recounts the stories behind many of his most noted works. He also talks about sculptors and artists he admires and has worked with. The reader is taken into his studio to see how he works, witnesses the foundry process and attends some notable unveilings. Collectors and gallery owners assess his work and what it means to them.
